Parish Safe Environment Program

The next class for those needing "Called to Protect for Ministries" will be held on Tuesday 02/21/12 at 6:30:00 PM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  ALL those working with children or vulnerable adults who are over the age of 18 are required to take this class if you have not already done so since 2008.  If you have taken this foundation class and are still working with children and/or vulnerable adults, you must complete the ARMATUS:Online update each year for as long as you are involved in these ministries.  Read below for instructions on how to sign up for this class.

In compliance with Archdiocesan guidelines, Holy Trinity Parish has taken stepsSafe Environment Logo to ensure that ALL children and vulnerable adults served by our volunteers are protected.  ALL volunteers serving on behalf of our parish should complete the "Volunteer For Ministry" course offered annually at Holy Trinity.  This same course is offered at other locations throughout the Archdiocese and you may fulfill this requirement at any of these locations.  For a list of locations, or to sign up for this class, simply click on http://www.seattle.setanet.org/classes.php or cut & paste the previous URL into your browser.   Click on "Register for This Class" link and follow the instructions.  Once you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.  We ask that if you have taken the class in a location other than Holy Trinity that you submit a copy to the parish office for our records.  After you have fulfilled this initial class, all annual renewals will be done online.

For ministries serving children and vulnerable adults, this is a mandatory requirement by thechildrens faces Archdiocese.  In addition, volunteers serving in these ministries (which include but are not limited to Faith Formation & Youth Ministry teachers, aides & chaperones, Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound, Nursing Home & Hospitals, as well as Boy Scout & Cub Scout volunteers and Altar Servers -aged 18 and older), must also submit a background check form and maintain a cleared background check on file with us as long as they are serving in these ministries.  (Money Counters and Coin rollers are also required to submit and pass a background check.)  Background checks are good for 3 years.  In addition to keeping your Background check current, your Safe Environment Volunteer course must be renewed annually.

2011 UPDATE: Annual online updates are no longer required of Money Counters, Coin Rollers or other ministries that do not work directly with youth or vulnerable adults.  For those whose ministries DO work with children and vulnerable adults and are required to complete an annual update, these are done online.  You will have several ARMATUS online courses to choose from.  You need only do ONE per year as long as you serve in ministry, but it must be one you have not already completed.  New classes elderlyare put up every year.  Repeating the "Volunteer for Ministry" course does NOT fulfill your annual update obligation.  Currently there are five different ARMATUS online update classes available.  Click on the following link to login and begin your online update classes by Praesidium http://seattle.setanet.org/obligations.php. After clicking on the link, enter your name and address exactly as you entered it for the initial class.  IE:  If you registered for the initial class using your legal name vs. nickname, or if you abbreviated part of your address – be sure you enter here the same way.  If you need help, or are unsure exactly how you are entered, contact Katie at the parish office and she can look it up for you, or walk you through this.

Holy Trinity offers these classes at least twice a year; in the Fall as well as in the Spring.  If you need to attend in the meanwhile, you can attend any of the authorized classes listed in the Archdiocese (click on their page to find classes listed in your area.)  If you attend elsewhere, just be sure to inform us and give us a copy of your printout which is emailed to you upon completion.  This way we can make sure OUR records are updated and you are credited with having had the class for ministry at Holy Trinity.  To register for class, please click on the Archdiocesan Safe Environment page: http://www.seattle.setanet.org/classes.php or contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
